The Moose
Mike Mussina picked up his first win of the seaon tonight, as the Yanks downed the Jays in the dome.
Of course they made it interesting as Marino Rivera had the tying run on at third base until he got the final out on a roller to second to record his third save of the season.
It seems that Mariano still doesn't have the movement on his cutter yet, but we'll take the victory.
Tino made an incredible catch to open the inning, diving to snare a high pop in front of the plate that Posada appeared to call and should have caught.
Tom Gordon came on in the seventh and finally did his job, bridging the gap to the ninth for Rivera.
Buddy Groom just recalled from the minors got a big out in the seventh that helped squelch a Toronto threat. I'd like to see more of him before Strutze comes off the DL. He's a lefty and if he can get a situational out here and there he could become valuable.
Mussina danced around today, giving up ten hits in 5 1/3 innings, rarely throwing a fastball. Bernie is starting to look comfortable in the two hole. As a team they still seem lethargic though, except when they scortched a few liners to scored two runs in each of the third and fourth.
Next up they are back home with Texas over the weekend, and the dreaded Angels after that. Even when the Halos stunk they always gave us trouble.
