Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, and Hiroki Kuroda turn down Yankees qualifying offer

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and Hiroki Kuroda have all declined the $14.1 million qualifying offer that the Yankees extended to them last week.

Granderson announced his decision just prior to the 5 pm deadline, while Cano and Kuroda simply let the clock count down.

By turning it down, they will remain free agents and will now be linked to draft pick compensation.

It's yet to be seen who the Yankees will attempt to re-sign , but if any of them sign elsewhere, they could cost the signing team their first round draft pick and give the Yankees a supplemental first round pick.

If the signing team has a protected pick (top ten picks), they won't lose a draft pick, but the Yankees will still receive the same compensation no matter what. Yankee fans don't need to root for one team to sign them over the other, which is good, because the Mets and White Sox are reportedly interested signing Granderson.

All 13 players extended a qualifying offer have declined to accept, meaning that all 13 will be linked to draft compensation. Now Yankee free agent targets Shin-Soo Choo, Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran, and Stephen Drew will all cost the Yankees the 19th overall draft pick. If they sign more than one, the Yankees will also forfeit their secodn round pick as well.
