Yankees agree to terms with first round pick Aaron Judge

USA TODAY Sports

With the signing deadline for draftees coming tomorrow at 5 pm, the Yankees have finally agreed to terms with their final first round pick Aaron Judge, according to George King. It was reported yesterday that Judge was on his way to Tampa, presumably to take his physical.

The holdup in Judge's signing was reportedly that the Fresno State outfielder wanted money that exceeded the recommended slot value for the 32nd overall pick at $1,677,100. Thanks to other signings coming in under the budget, the Yankees had a bit of extra money to play with, something that was surely not beyond Judge's knowledge. With a year of eligibility left at Fresno State, he could afford to play a little hardball with the Yankees, which he ultimately seems to have come out on top of. King reports that the sides have agreed on a $1,800,000 signing bonus, which comes in slightly above the slot value.

Judge was the final remaining player in the first fifteen rounds that the Yankees hadn't agreed to terms with with the deadline just a matter of hours away. Once all the paperwork and physicals are done, Judge is likely to join the Staten Island Yankees with fellow first round pick Eric Jagielo.
