Tough guy Towers calls out Pena, says 2nd fiasco was because of him

I think Josh Towers should focus more on how to get hitters out and his over 5 ERA.

Towers said his problem the second time was with Pena, not Rodriguez.

"I heard somebody chirping when I was talking to Lyle [Overbay] and I didn't think it was Alex and I asked who it was," Towers said. "Tony Pena is running his mouth off and I was like, 'What's this guy running his mouth off for?' This dude is a quitter. He managed a team and quit in the middle of the season because he couldn't hack it. He's going to run his mouth off? So I ended up getting into it with Alex a second time."

Pena quit as manager of Kansas City in May 2005.

"I don't care," Pena said when asked about the incident. "I have no comment. Let him talk."

pena
also won four gold gloves and appeared in five all-star games as a player something that towers could never even dream of doing.

Towers needs to worry about
keeping his roster spot, not our first base coach.

No place to talk
I don't fault Pena. He was in a tough spot. Towers was in a tough spot too: He's got pedestrian stuff, and he's facing a slugging softball team of professional hitters.

I think we cut him some slack. He knows he sucks.

I just find it funny
That a guy with Towers' Igawa-like ERA is calling someone else out as not being able to hack it.

Not only was Tony Pena
a better player than Josh Towers, he probably could have been a better pitcher.

2007 Award for Towers
Josh Towers wins my "Incredibly Stupid Move" Award for 2007, with more than 4 months left in the year.  First, didn't someone tell him that the opposing pitcher was Roger Clemens who doesn't need a reason to throw inside (cough, cough!).  Did he remember Roger took on King of the Mets in the Series a few years ago. Who among us did not think Roger was going to retaliate?  Second, Everything I need to know about life I learned in Brooklyn...When your team is getting its ass kicked, don't give the other guys another reason to be mad.  Jays had won 8 straight at home, we come in and can do no worse than 2 of 3, but I have a broom all ready to go with Wang taking care of business tonight.
In his chase for No. 500, ARod broke one of Mantle's records. He took one more at bat than Mickey to get there!

It was wonderful
seeing rocket throw at Rios. I knew he was gonna throw at someone and it was great seeing that a yankee pitcher actually has balls.

yeah bite me Blue Jays
Get over yourselves already.  It was one game, one comment, that was clever but dirty and it's not the reason you guys are 7 games back in the WC.

it's just guys like
towers or john macdonald et al that make think- who the hell are these guys to be calling out perennial all-stars? it think you gotta have a little street-cred or whatever before you start mouthing off.

I would have loved
to see Tower's get his ass kicked by A-Rod. I also would have paid to see Shelley Duncan and Matt Stairs go at it.  Now that is good quality entertainment.  Eff the Blue Jays, they aren't going anywhere in the division and this just makes them look pitiful.

it would
have been a good way for farnsy to go out. He would have actually made himself useful somewhat.

Seeing
as he can't throw strikes, should we assume that he can land a punch?  I am going to say no way, what does everyone else think?

I forget who reported it
NYTimes, perhaps, but Farnsworth and Frank Thomas both came up from the clubhouses.  That's why they were late getting on the field.
Not to defend the guy- but it's probably the reason we didn't see anyone get body slammed.
