After losing 5 of 6 to the BoSox to begin the season series, the Yanks have come back to win 6 of 8 and tie the series at 7-7.

Wang has struggled in his career against the Red Sox (4-4, 4.78 ERA in 9 starts).  He is 2-2, 3.72 ERA against RSN at Yankee Stadium.

38pitches.com has decent but not great regular season success against the Yanks (7-6, 4.84 ERA in 22 games).  Like his fellow starters, he has been pounded by the Yankee offense this season (0-1, 7.00 ERA in 3 starts).

Both Jorge Posada and Bobby Abreu are hitting .378 (14-37) against 38pitches.com, while Robinson Cano is hitting .360 (9-25) against him.

On the other side, David Ortiz is hitting a PlayStation-like .500 (12-24, 2 2B, 2 HR) against Wang.  Good thing Manny is OUT again since his numbers are even better (.591, 13-22, 2 HR).

His body won't handle it.  Maybe for an entire series like this one or in the playoffs, but he can't go the rest of the season or his foot will act up and he won't be able to hit either.

I think he can
be the everyday first baseman or near to it for the rest of the playoff run. We aren't asking for a full season, he has already missed it, but a month isn't too much to ask.

Warmups?
How much does pitch count vary how much he throws, though?  Warmup is what, 20 pitches?  So if he throws 10 in an inning vs. 20, he's really thrown 30 vs. 40 which is not as big a difference.  By using him at all you're already made him work in warmups.

King is the most unreliable
among all writers who cover this team and I always take everything he says with a grain of salt.

That said, I think these minor changes is a good thing if it turns out to be true.

I agree with the Joba rules, but I do think it's a waste to give Joba a day off if he throws 10 pitches.

There's a good
quote from Torre, who appears to be debating himself. He says that so far, the Joba rules have worked, so maybe you don't want to mess with success.

That said, I think there's only other reliable guy in the pen (Viz), so come playoff time (or even the deciding games that could come at the end of September), you've got to go with common sense.

Until the first sox game, Joba had thrown the equivalent of one complete game: 122 pitches.

Was there some scouting report that they should jump on the first pitch from Beckett and Shill?  Even Bobby went after the first pitch, he usually works counts.  Jeter and Robbie did too and it worked, so maybe there's something to it.

He's all over the TV in Boston- Dunkin Donuts, Ford trucks, his charity (ok, that's not a bad thing), and some other product I forget.  He also personally calls into radio shows- it's not as bad this year, but the last couple years you couldn't go a day without hearing him or seeing his face.

Here's the skinny:
  1. Groundball to Alex.
  2. He charges it, and attempts to tag out Youkilis who's running to third right in front of him.
  3. Youkilis avoids the tag by so much that he fully steps on the infield grass.
  4. Alex fires to first for the sure out (he never actually tagged Youkilis).
  5. Umpires have a pow-wow and determine that Youkilis went out of the baseline and call him out.
  6. Francona comes out and argues until he gets tossed.

had to figure it out.  Yuke ran out of the base path to avoid arod's tag, was initially called safe  and Nancy Drew was called out at first.  Torre protested, umps met and reconsidered and called Yuke out. Double play.  Francona argued and was tossed.

He looked strong.
Velocity was consistent.  Quite a few of his balls were low sliders intended that the batter didn't offer at.

What if Wang comes out for the next inning? If he gets into trouble, Torre "can't" bring Joba in because of the rules (nothing in the middle of an inning).  

Or will this whole thing be moot, and Joba will start the 8th?

Wang looked good
Not the usual stuff we've seen, throwing mid 90s fastball, with sliders.  Seems like the Sox hitters were staying away from his sinker, and Wang was missing with it.  Hence the walks, but he had enough other good stuff.  How bad could it be when you finish 7 against the Sox with one hit.  Joba in now for the 8th.
Oh those bases on balls. Can anyone here throw strikes???

it's "Indian Outlaw" by Tim McGraw.

I'm no fan of country at all, so I've never heard it.  

But you can be sure that it won't pump up the home crowd like those metal tunes.

Kinda lame if you ask me.  Seems to defeat the purpose of having entrance music.

is that the Joba ejection could be costly if the league decides to suspend him a couple of games.

It's not that
it's probably the cost of having two YES crews, and the cost of extending the post-game show.

If YES wanted to they could send a crew to the other locker room and stand there with the rest of the media.  There's usually a dozen or so media folks gathered around a player at the same time.
