Teixeira traded to the Braves

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports says the deal is done:

The Braves are on the verge of acquiring Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira.

The deal is done, pending a review of the medical records of the players involved, according to major-league sources.

The Braves will receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.

The Rangers will receive catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects.

Good move for ATL
It was a hefty price, but it helps them this year and more importantly provides a little cushion to lessen the blow of Andruw's impending departure.

Maybe. I'm surprised
thought that a team that watches its budget would do this. This trade is basically for 1 season and 2months.  They would have Salty cheap for another 4-5 years.  I understand that Salty is not a Tex's level yet, but he maybe.  Also, although Tex has been injured, he hasn't looked like the 05 player the last two years.

Extraordinary price
Salty and Elvis were the top two prospects in the organization at the start of the year http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/features/263052.html.
Mahay is a 36 year old journeyman.
I can't believe Schuerholz would do it.

Great News
The Yankees didnt need him so that panic move is off the board. and I was fearful of more first base bingo. We have Phillips, Giambi and Manky plus some Cairo. If we want him in the off season its only $$$$ and no current players or prospects.  We only need to add by subtraction and that means Fransworth GONE and maybe Myers.

A few problems there
There is no one available this winter at first.

Yeah
Killer park. The bleachers are neat, too. There's a lawn area behind them where you can plop down a towel and watch the game for a five spot.

Too bad the Padres got shellacked.

I head they have
apartments that look into the stadium also.  Did those apartments look like they had a cool view?

But he's only at AA
Do you think they'll move him up soon?  Didn't he start the year in Single A?

That may be true
But I don't think he is a realistic option for next year.

Not a great move
I'm abit surprised. Does Atlanta really think they can keep Tex? Considering there cost cutting philosophy of late, and his agent is Boras (who else), there's little chance. That is a steep price for Tex.

Shoot, maybe Salty needs Tommy John surgery???
