Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

They need a bat!

We all know about the bullpen, but I still think getting a good hitter is almost as important.

Damon is killing the Bombers...236 AVE .338 OBP

He's 15-78 since 06/20. Arggggg!!! And many broken bats...

Johnny does walk a lot (46X) which has helped his OBP considerably, but soon pitchers will just challenge him without fear.

He's only had sixteen extra base hits all year. 10 2B's, 5 HR's, 1 3B

At this point he's running the bases effectively and has stolen 16 out of 17 bases, but it's obvious that he's hurt. Can anyone remember the last time he hit a line drive? Even a foul one?

Last year he slugged at .482, this year .327

Unless they get another bat soon, he'll never get the time to heal and the Yankee chances of mounting a sustained threat are minimal at best.

Who would you want to see Cashman go after?

That's ridiculous
We don't need a bat.  We need to drop Damon in the lineup.
Jeter
Cano
Abreu
Arod
Matsui
Posada
Melky
Phillips
Damon (or whomever is DHing/filling in)

That's more than enough offense.
We need to get Hughes up here to replace Igawa.  We need Britton to replace Farnsworth.  Edwar to appear in games.  Myers DFA'd.  We might need a replacement for Mussina, but that would be a luxury.
It's worth pointing out that we're now as far behind Boston as Cleveland.  5 in the loss column.  One game at a time.

6 in the loss column
obviously.

I Agree but add
The Yankees also need to figure out what they need to do to break his slump.

Is he healthy enough to be playing?  If he is a day or two off might help.  It did with Abreu.

Getting him going is a better idea than giving up players for someone who will give us roster problems.  In the long run the Yankees need Johnny Damon playing better.  His old numbers would be great.

shelley duncan
at least call the guy up and give him a chance. i heard last night he broke the scranton wilkes barre record for homeruns(including their affiliation with the phillies) and theres still 44 games left!

point is the guy isnt helping our team by playing in triple A and im not sure what is overall ceiling is but at least give him a try

I Would
love to see shelley duncan on the big team.  But what is the point of doing it if Joe doesn't put him in any games.  Just look at what he has done with Edwar Ramirez.  I would hate to see Joe waste his talents, by having him sitting on the bench.

I still think the guy is injured
because I can't see any other logical explanation why he has utterly collapsed after having such a very good season in 2006.

We're talking about a guy who hit .285, 24 HR, 80 RBI, 35 doubles, and scored 115 runs.

He put up those numbers while playing with a broken bone in his foot for roughly 4 months.

It won't help much this season but perhaps his play will motivate him to make sure he's in great shape next season the way A-Rod did after having a subpar campaign in 2006.

agreed
and i can appreciate the guy's never been on the DL before, and maybe doesn't want to go on it now.. but some time off to just heal may be what he needs. at some point somebody's just gotta make the decision for him.

too much pride for the DL
I like Damon, but I'm really getting pissed. There's something wrong but he's got too much pride to admit it and take a trip to the DL.

The guy is hurting the team now, he's basically relegated to a one tool player if that.

According to Johnny...
...he feels "Great!" He doesn't seem to have any intention of going to the DL. But yeh... you would think something is bothering him.

LoHud
quoted Kevin Long as saying he feels Damon's just about to come out of it..

here's hoping

I think...
...we could use another bat off the bench. Not sure who (we don't have much we're willing to trade... bernie's not doing anything). But, I say leave Damon where he is. We need him to hit. He gets paid a lot of money and the Yankees are much better with a true lead off hitter. That being said.. we're in some trouble if he doesn't find his way out of what's been a season long slump.

Johnny in the NYT today
they said he said he would like to one day play for Tampa Bay.

I'd really like to see him play today for the Yankees.  HELLO.

The Daily News ripped Farnsworth the other day and Torre was saying it's mental.  No one really cares, just keep him off the field.  Torre seems to insinuate if he doesn't play him he will continue to lose confidence yet he had no problem moving Arod down the order in the playoffs.  WTF.

And where the f is Edwar anyway?  Why the hell is he not playing more?

Eric Byrnes?
Arizona doesn't seem to want to pay for him next year, so why not see if they'll trade.

Giambi can come back and take the DH spot from Damon
