Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Trade Rumor

Olney

Charley Waters wonders if Oakland's Dan Johnson will be using this weekend to audition for the Twins. The Yankees also have had conversations with Oakland about Johnson; Johnson says the speculation that he has heard is in regards to Boston.

Johnson is hitting .260 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI's. Adding another so-so lefty to the mix? I think not.

Of course.....
it all depends what they have to give up for him.

They could do a lot worse -- and have for the entire first half of the season.

He's not a great defender
at 1B.  I wonder if he could play the corner outfield, too?  That would increase his value, in my opinion.
On the plus side, he's 27 and only in his third season, so he's got a few years left before he's expensive.
I say don't do it.  Billy Beane's gonna want too much.

Isn't this guy injury-prone?
He hasn't completed a full season yet.

Not so Big Johnson
He'll be 28 in August, and has yet to play a full season. Sure he may have great power, if he has yet to crack and stick in an Oakland lineup, I'd be concerned.

Plus, Billy Beane is no fool. There is no chance he's going to let a guy go without getting something in return. Frankly, I don't think we've got much--at least nothing I'd want to surrender for a 28 year old question mark.

It's not that simple
He got his first call-up in 2005, so that's why he didn't play a full season.

Then in 2006, he had a case of double vision, which forced him down to AAA for much of the season. He had it corrected over the off-season.

I do not knnow about him
but I get double vision when the astigmatism correction on my lenses is not right.

Then my brain cannot make the two different shaped images correspond correctly.  After struggling a while the two images drift appart. Fatigue is a factor.

Okay, so ...
What you are saying is he's healthy? Not seeing two of everything like Dock Ellis. A seemingly healthy "Big" Johnson is hitting .260 in 66 games with 10 dingers...

Hmmm, I'll pass.

I'll stick with Andy who may hit .260 and not cost me any prospects.

However, if Beane would take Kei Igawa and his salary ... I'd do the deal.

Shit
If Beane will take Igawa and his salary, I'll take the worst prospect the A's have to offer in return.

Not arguing with that
He surely won't be worth the price tag.

But I don't think health is a main reason for that.

I deleted the spammer
Johnson can't field and is always hurt...Beane is no fool, but I would take him for a so-so minor leaguer and give it a shot, but Billy is not stupid...
