Bring Joe Torre back and make him a Yankee for Life!
The Boss brought Donny Baseball back to the Bronx with one thought in mind. To become the next manager of the NY Yankees. He's one of the most loved players of this generation and seems like the perfect choice to take over the team after Torre leaves. Can you think of anyone else that would have the fan support that Mattingly carries? However, it appears he's not ready to take it on yet and he's incredibly loyal to Joe.
The Yanks should extend Torre's contract a year, two, whatever and at the presser announce that Don will take over after Joe's time is up and then sign Torre to a Yankee contract for life. You can't have him go to or manage another ball club. This is Torre. He's been the face of the Yanks that have won four out of six championships and been to the playoffs every year since he's led the team in the biggest town in the world. Even if they haven't grabbed the ring since 2000, his success as a coach has him ticketed straight to Cooperstown.
It would be the smartest move all around. The fans would be grateful that Torre was treated with dignity and (who else could have gotten this team into the playoffs after a 22-29 record with a decimated pitching staff?) Donnie would be at the helm finally after more time as a bench coach.
Last year many fans wouldn't have complained too much if Torre lost his job, but most of the blame goes to Cashman and the players on this one. The Yanks don't have a #1 starter as gutty as Andy is or a bullpen. I won't even comment on how bad Jeter, Wang and Posada were in the series. And Jeter never stirs the pot so he should for once speak out for Mr. T.
And Posada should follow Rivera's lead with Pettitte jumping in. Put the screws to management.
And Bill Madden should just say he has no clue already..

I TOTALLY AGREE
Let's all then get realistic and start addressing what needs to be addressed on this team, pitching, pitching and pitching.
Attempt to resign A-rod, prepare to say goodbye if he opts out. Pick up Abreu's option, push Andy to stay for another year, Sign Posada to a 4 year deal knowing he may have to play first in year 4. Pay Rivera WHATEVER HE WANTS.
Rework the middle relief, get a real ACE and one great arm to get to Rivera.

Unnecessary drama
We have pitching issues but combine that with awful play by Jeter and Posada and it was lights out time. I really have more of an issue with Jeter and Posada's performances than any other players on the team or anything the management did. I'm still kerfluffled by Jorge's at bats and Jeter was just useless. Captain what? I can forgive the entire team but have trouble with those two the most.
I know our losses came at the hands of Wang but he's a young pitcher who had been hurt facing a team that adjusted to his pitches. To be fair, Wang didn't seem to be able to adjust to their adjustments. Maybe that's his age or he hasn't worked on that enough...maybe he hasn't had to. Petitte or Clemens and Moose could have gone, "Huh, they have my number, let's try this..." Wang just dug himself deeper into the hole. Petitte should have been pitching Game 1 and Game 4. Clemens took the mound but was saved by Hughes and a suddenly awake offense. But Torre had to deal with that, with throwing Hughes in the middle of the game, Joba's bugs and all kinds of stupid crap.
Mussina and Farnsworth pitched well but they were both so inconsistent during the regular season, who could count on them for starting or relief? Out of all the pitchers, it made sense to go with Wang. It was not a wrong decision.
I think Torre's hands were tied A LOT by criticisms of him with his pitching and bullpen management. He was playing it safe and tried not to go to Mussina or Farnsworth. He would have been crucified if he had gone to them and they crapped the bed. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I do think that some of the baserunning calls were wrong but in the overall scheme of things, that's not a lot. And certainly not enough to be fired over.
I think this drama is completely unnecessary and we wouldn't even be talking about it if the Boss didn't just freak out last week. I know it's tough for him to shut up because people think it means he's sitting in a corner drooling on himself somewhere and we're all glad he's not, but he can prove he's still with us in other ways...not by firing Torre.

Wang's postseason Woes.
Our season was really ruined by injuries to pitchers.
Injuries to pitchers in the early season caused the terrible start. Then they hit us in the later time. Two youngsters down with broken bones on batted balls, really TWO. Hughes just started to look like himself at the end of the year after the hammy. Then just when we looked like we had it solved both Rocket and IPK down in the last week or so of the season.
This stuff happens to teams in baseball. The result is we put Wang in a very bad position. He pitched on way too much rest, then on not enough.
I hope he gets the chance to do better next year.
