Palmeiro

Just read that Rafael, who told Congress he never, ever used steroids, failed the drug test and is getting a 10 day suspension, which he is not appealing (although the Players Assoc. is filing a grievance, whatever that means). He claims he didn't knowingly use a banned substance and has apologized to his teammates, the fans, and major league baseball.

Now, I ask you. Does he want us to believe that he, like Sheffield, used "the cream" or "the clear" and didn't know what it was? Does he want us to believe that he popped a decongestant for a head cold and that it had a banned ingredient he didn't know about? Or was it an asthma inhaler maybe? Or possibly the Viagra he's been plugging? What?

And what happens to the record he just broke? Because if the guy really has been using, as Canseco said in his book, then he's the biggest liar of all and a 10 day suspension isn't nearly strong enough punishment. I mean, come on. He's a role model and he's been all saintly about this. I want to believe he's telling the truth but don't know what to think.
