Chacon!!!

From mlb.com (your source for FREE trade info)-- The Colorado Rockies sent right-handed pitcher Shawn Chacon to the New York Yankees on Thursday night for a pair of Minor League pitchers.
The Rockies will get right-handed pitchers Ramon Ramirez and Eduardo Sierra, both of whom have been assigned to Double-A Tulsa.

Ramirez, 23, has split the season between Triple-A Columbus (1-3, 5.33 ERA in six starts) and Double-A Trenton (6-5, 3.84 ERA in 15 starts). Sierra, 23, is 3-1 with a 3.28 ERA and two saves in 33 relief appearances at Trenton.

Chacon, 27, a second-round draft choice in 1996 and the first player the Rockies had drafted from a Colorado high school (Greeley Central), had been the Rockies' hard-luck pitcher this season, going 1-7 but with a 4.09 ERA -- strong considering he pitches at Coors Field. He has given up three or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts, but is 0-7 in his last 10 starts.

Chacon would be fitted into the Yankees' injury-depleted starting rotation on Saturday, because right-hander Kevin Brown was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday (retroactive to Sunday).

Chacon had been slated to start for the Rockies on Friday against Philadelphia. Right-hander Jose Acevedo (2-0, 4.05 ERA) will take Chacon's place.

Star-divide

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a starter for Saturday!

Better than Brown
Anyone would be. Or, as I said on another post, even Skippy the ball boy would be better than Brown.

But I have no clue how our latest adventure in starting pitching will go. I'm hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Interesting thoughts on Chacon
I found something pretty interesting statistically about Chacon. It appears he has the ability to control the rate of hits on balls in play. Check it out:

Beyond the Boxscore

This might be a better pitcher your dealing with than you suspected, although not as good as some people think he can be. He still needs to work out his K/BB issues to be completely effective I think.

Hmmm
There was supposed to be a survey thing attached to this, but it looks like that feature didn't work.
I think that Chacon will be good.  If he can give us quality starts for the rest of the season he'll be the best trade of the last several years.
Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.
