Arizona Diamondbacks to interview Mike Harkey and Scott Aldred for pitching coach opening

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks are interested in two coaches within the Yankees organization to potentially fill their open pitching coach position. Arizona is reportedly planning to ask the Yankees permission to interview bullpen coach Mike Harkey and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pitching coach Scott Aldred as potential replacements for Charles Nagy, according to Joel Sherman.

Since being tapped as the next pitching coach for the Diamondbacks would be seen as a promotion from their current position, the Yankees are expected to allow both coaches to interview for the job. It's not exactly apparent what impact a bullpen coach has on the operation of the team, but Harkey was one of the coaches on Joe Girardi's staff that was recently brought back for 2014.

If one of the coaches actually lands the pitching coach job, the Yankees could very well promote from within, particularly if they only lose their Triple-A pitching coach. Depending on how much they value what Mike Harkey brings to the table, an opening at the big league level might have them looking to the outside for a replacement.

Do you actually have an opinion of Mike Harkey? Would you like him to stay or are you pretty indifferent to the guy who answers the bullpen phone when it's time to get someone warming up?
