Yankees lineup vs. Orioles; Radio deal with WFAN is close

Greg Fiume

Chris Stewart returns, Mike Zagurski is added, and the Yankees could be on the move on the radio.

After dropping the first of four games, the Yankees turn to Ivan Nova to get themselves back on track against the Orioles. Nova has had consecutive fantastic starts against the Orioles and he will need to continue that streak tonight if the Yankees hope to keep pace in the wild card race.

Chris Stewart has magically healed from being hit by a pitch and returns to the lineup tonight. Alex Rodriguez is batting second for the second straight game. After dominating them for what seemed like forever, the Yankees were finally able to muster some production off Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez the last time they faced him. Ichiro Suzuki has managed to hit two homers off Gonzalez and Alfonso Soriano has one career dinger off the right-hander. No other Yankee in the lineup has managed to take him deep.

With an MRI on Boone Logan's arm showing inflammation, the Yankees have brought back Mike Zagurski, who played for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders for most of the season. He pitched to a 2.14 ERA in 21 innings with the RailRiders and will serve as another lefty option out of the bullpen with Cesar Cabral until Logan is healthy enough to pitch again. Travis Hafner was placed on the 60-day DL to make room on the roster.

The big news today is that the Yankees are nearing a ten-year radio deal with CBS that would be worth $15-$20 million per year, making their contract the most lucrative in baseball. CBS owns WFAN and Yankees games would be broadcast there, forcing the Mets to another station. The Yankees have had control in the past of who their radio broadcasters are, which means that they very well could bring John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman wherever they go next season. Joy.
