Yankees lineup vs. White Sox; Michael Pineda and David Phelps shut down

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The Yankees were beat up last night against the White Sox, in what was Chicago's first win in ten games. Tonight, Joe Girardi throws out a very interesting lineup in what will surely be a pitchers duel with Hiroki Kuroda vs. Chris Sale.

Brett Gardner is back in the lineup with Alfonso Soriano now moved to the two-hole. Alex Rodriguez will bat third and play third base tonight in his second game back from the disabled list and Robinson Cano will finally bat in the cleanup spot after hitting third and even second all year. Vernon Wells gets a start in right field as Ichiro Suzuki sits again and Jayson Nix gets a start at third base because we need his ability to do everything. Eduardo Nunez will play shortstop, David Adams will get a start at first base while Lyle Overbay sits against a lefty, and Austin Romine gets back in the lineup, batting ninth.

Michael Pineda and David Phelps both suffered setbacks in the minors last week and it turns out that both will be shut down. Phelps suffered another strain in his elbow and will be shut down for the next two weeks. Pineda came throughclean on all of his tests and will be shut down for the next seven to ten days. Another setback for either could mean the season for them, but Phelps looks like he's in danger of needing Tommy John surgery. The Yankees are going to go slow with Pineda, so who knows when he'll pitch again if they think he may have overworked his shoulder.
