Marlins tap Tino as hitting coach

16

The Miami Marlins and rookie manager Mike Redmond--former Yankee dynasty first baseman Tino Martinez. It's probably not a bad hire since Tino was always a patient and dangerous hitter at the plate, so he probably knows a thing or two about the craft. Best of luck.

Poll: Should Mariano Rivera Retire?

8

Our colleagues at SB Nation New York are running a poll asking if the Great One should hang 'em up. Go get your two cents in. My opinion: Rivera should never retire -- unless he's not going to be Rivera. I never want to see him struggle in the same way I never want to see Fred Astaire stumble.

Capsule Guides to the World Series Teams

+

For those who dig what I do (Hi, Mom!), I'm taking a spin through the past Tigers and Giants World Series teams in capsule form, although they're getting to be rather large for capsules. It's really more like a horse pill form. Anyway, if you like that sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you'll like. Check it out over at Unca Rob's place.

A-Rod to Miami?

Jeff Sullivan on Robinson Cano's Struggles

Jeff Sullivan is quite the scribe regarding the art of base ball. This is a late post, but earlier, he wrote about Cano and his inexplicable hitless streak. Top notch stuff.

Any OOTPers here? For those who don't know, OOTP is a semi popular PC baseball sim among baseball nerds like us. Anyone here play the game? (If I can't post this as a fanshot, I apologize)

Amy K. Nelson from Yankee Stadium on Joe Girardi's Loss

1

Our esteemed colleague Amy K. Nelson on Joe Girardi and a song's loss of his father. My favorite line on Girardi, from Gay Talese of all people: "Jesus, he's been here five years and I don't know anything about him."

Amy K. Nelson on a Historic Night in the Bronx

1

Our colleague Amy K. Nelson reports from the Bronx on Raul Ibanez's big night. My favorite line: "Como lo hace?" Ichiro said, in Spanish. Translation: How do you do it?
