PREGAME NOTES:

  • Joe Girardi held a closed door team meeting before the game.  Not exactly sure how that is going to help the team score runs since it won't bring back A-Rod or Posada.  Frankly, I think team meetings are overrated but I guess the manager has to do something to try and shake things up.
  • Mike Mussina is a lifetime 17-7, 3.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP in 30 starts against the Rays, including a brilliant outing on April 7 (6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) at the Stadium.
  • James Shields is a lifetime 0-5, 7.83 ERA, 1.71 WHIP in 6 starts against the Yanks, including a loss (5 IP, 8 H, 2 ER) on April 6 at the Stadium.
  • Yanks career numbers vs. Shields can be viewed here.  Rays career numbers vs. Moose can be viewed here.
