Jorge Posada is back in the lineup as the DH tonight but his stiff shoulder does not feel well enough to start behind the plate.
Speaking of not feeling well, Joe Girardi will sit out tonight's game with an upper respiratory infection and a high fever. Rob Thomson will be the interim skipper.
Tyler Kepner reports that both Melky Cabrera and Shelly Duncan have dropped their appeals to reduce their 3-game suspensions to two games apiece. Cabrera will serve his suspension tonight and tomorrow while Duncan will serve his on Sunday and Monday.
Ian Kennedy is 1-0, 1.29 ERA in one start (his first major league win) against the Rays.
Andy Sonnanstine is 1-1, 3.14 ERA in 2 starts against the Yankees.
Yankees' career numbers vs. Sonnanstine can be viewed here. Rays' career numbers vs. Kennedy can be viewed here.
Finally, here's an interesting tidbit from Ed Price in today's Star-Ledger:
"Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Posada are the first trio of teammates to play together 14 straight seasons since Jim Gantner, Paul Molitor and Robin Yount of the 1978-92 Brewers and the first ever for the Yankees."
