The Yankees couldn't get anything going against left-hander Blake Snell yesterday. Their consolation prize this afternoon? Rays ace Chris Archer. Although it's been a down year for Archer, complete with a 4.00 ERA over 182.1 innings, the right-hander still has sterling peripherals. He owns a 3.37 FIP and a career best 11.35 K/9. On any given day Archer can shut down a lineup, so it would be foolish to write him off this afternoon.
As for the Yankees, Jaime Garcia makes his return to the rotation. The Garcia experiment hasn't worked out, as he's pitched to a 5.11 ERA (5.58 FIP) with the Bombers. On paper, this matchup is as lopsided as they come. Maybe weird baseball will take over and the Yankees pull off a victory. That would be appreciated.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM and you can watch on YES.
