Jose Quintana is a hot pitching commodity. He maybe the top available pitching talent out there. He has performed quite well the past three season. Even cementing himself as an ACE. Then throw in his team control and team friendly contract, he becomes even more enticing. Several teams have kicked the tires on a potential trade for his services. The Pale Hose want a ton of prospects for him. Little wonder that the Yankees and Pirates are interested.

Who would the Yankees want, to get involved in a deal that would send Quintana to the Pirates? Andrew McCutchen that's who. Plus, create and opening in the outfield by including Brett Gardner in this trade. Think about this for a moment? We need a proven superstar in our lineup, to put butts in the seats. Andrew fits the bill perfectly. He adds power, speed, average, RBI's and solid defense. His addition is a no brainer, to add McCuthen to the everyday lineup. Then we are hearing that Cashman wants Sox's to throw in David Robertson and cash to boot. Does that not check off two needs of the Yankees in one trade?

The White Sox are rebuilding and on the hunt for top prospects. They recently secured quite a haul from both the Red Sox and the Nationals. They will settle for nothing less than a similar haul for both Quintana and Robertson. They have lofty expectations. Neither the Yankees or the Pirates are willing to unload the farm for one player. But they together might have enough talent to pry both Robertson and Quintana away from Chicago and not gut their respective farm systems. The Pirates have been involved in trade talks to move Andrew this offseason. So far he is still a Pirate. If they trade their star centerfielder they leave a hole in their outfield. They have long needed a steady lead off guy. With Andrew regressing defensively, in center, it creates a problem for them. So if he is replaced by a better defender then so much the better. They create one of the top defensive outfields in baseball by adding Gardner to center. Plus, lot easier to part with the franchise face and prospects to secure a top leadoff guy and an ACE to your rotation.

Meanwhile, the Yankees get a proven stud in the outfield. A true 5 tool player. Andrew is on a team friendly contract for the next two years. Which includes a million dollars buyout of his last year. This still does not interfere with any prospects coming to the big leagues, because of the length of Andrew's remaining contract. Basically, a salary trade-off in the salaries of Andrew and Brett. They also recreate that three headed monster in the pen by adding their former closer David Robertson to the pen. This allows them to use Dellin Betances in a similar manner that Andrew Miller was used by the Indians. He become the stopper of any rally. Tyler Clippard then can slide in and out of that three headed monster role to further add to the strength of this pen and shorten games. Creating the best bullpen in baseball or allowing Yankees to consider moving Clippard for a solid left handed reliever.

So who gives up what and who goes where?

Yankees send Brett Gardner and Tyler Austin to the Pirates. Jorge Mateo (SS/2B), Billy McKinney (OF), Ian Clarkin (SP), Miguel Andujar (3B) and Mason Williams (OF) to the White Sox.

The Pirates send Andrew McCutchen to the Yankees. Mitch Keller (SP), Josh Bell (1B/DH) and Elias Diaz(C) to the White Sox.

The White Sox send Jose Quintana to the Pirates. They send David Robertson to the Yankees.

Summary:

Yankees get McCutchen and Robertson. Bronx Bomber add a superstar in Andrew and closer in David.

Pirates get Quintana, Austin and Gardner. Buco's add an ACE in Jose, a back up option at first and right field in Tyler and a gold glove fielder and leadoff hitter in Brett.
