Around the Empire
ESPN | Wallace Matthews: The news of Jose Fernandez’s tragic passing affected the entire baseball world, and the Yankees were no exception to that. Donovan Solano (former teammates with him), Joe Espada (knew him from when he worked for the Marlins), Brian McCann, and Joe Girardi all reflected on Fernandez’s passing. In case you haven’t yet, also take a moment to read Andrew’s piece on how baseball is worse without him. Rest in peace, Jose.
NJ.com | Brendan Kuty: The Yankees have flat out played poorly this series against the Blue Jays. While their poor play is mostly to blame for their record, Joe Girardi also took issue with some of the calls in the ninth inning during Sunday’s loss.
New York Post | Dan Martin: Brian McCann is very well aware that his days as a Yankee might be over. He admitted that “now and going forward” Sanchez is the starting catcher for the Yankees. But he doesn’t want to talk about what may happen over the winter right now. His main focus is just on finishing the season strong.
Minor League Ball: Looking back at and reviewing the Yankees’ 2016 draft. First round pick Blake Rutherford was and is still considered a steal considering the Yankees got him with the 18th pick, and even Nick Solak in the second round is looking to be a great pick up.
MLB.com | Joe Trezza: Just a little over a year since his passing, family, friends, and fans gathered at the Yogi Berra Museum in Montclair University (Montclair, NJ) to commemorate Berra’s life. Berra moved to Montclair in 1959 and lived there until he passed away last year.

It’s Feel Good Week on Pinstripe Alley. The world is awful, and we need something to distract us from that. So we’ll be listening to feel good songs to try and lift our spirits. Rest in peace, Jose. We’ll miss you.
