This is the grand finale of the "forgotten trades" series featuring the New York Yankees. The trades between the two clubs have been pretty evenly matched. Will there be a winner or am I going to pull a Bud Selig and call this All-Star match up a tie?

*authors note (about half way through this article)* I realized I am probably the zillionth person to talk about this trade... the use of "forgotten" in this series has been forgotten...by me.

December 8th 2009- The Detroit Tigers send Curtis Granderson to the New York Yankees and Edwin Jackson to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The New York Yankees send Phil Coke and Austin Jackson to the Detroit Tigers. The New York Yankees send Ian Kennedy to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Arizona Diamondbacks send Max Scherzer (ouch!) and Daniel Schlereth to the Detroit Tigers.

The SPOILS:

NYY: The 2009 World Series Champions got the big name (at the time) in the form of Curtis Granderson. During his time in the Bronx, Curtis was a two time All-Star, Silver Slugger and the American League leader in RBI's. His value in this trade severely declined in 2013 (foreshadowing?) when Granderson was limited to just 61 games while batting .229 with 7 homers and 15 runs batted in. Granderson became a free agent after the year and moved to the subway to make his home in Queens.

ARI: Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson were sent to the desert in this three team trade. The Diamondbacks were not a very good team in 2010 but Jackson gave them their second no-hitter in team history. He threw 149 pitches in that game which is pretty remarkable for the modern era of baseball. Jackson ended up 6-10 with a 5.14 ERA in his only season in Arizona and was traded for Tommy John, err..Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg. The Diamondbacks also nabbed Ian Kennedy who along with Hudson were key pieces of Arizona's run to the NLDS against the Brewers. Kennedy and Hudson both recorded losses in that series but were over powered by NL MVP Ryan Braun and his completely legitimate talents. Kennedy's run with the Diamondbacks when his numbers deteriorated in 2013.

The COST:

NYY: Phil Coke has had a middling career with Detroit. His career numbers are 22-27 with a 4.16 ERA but may have turned a corner in 2014. In 62 appearances last year Coke was 5-2 with 41 K's and a 3.98 ERA. Austin Jackson finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting after his first season with the Tigers and lead the league in triples in 2011 and 2012. He was eventually sent to the Mariners. Jackson still has a lot of upside, being only 27 years old.

ARI: Max Scherzer career took off with the Tigers which materialized into a decent contract with the Nationals. $210 million dollars is a nice chunk of coin and time will tell if the 30 year old pitcher will live up to that contract. Max is currently holding a 91-50 record, 3.58 ERA and over 1,000 strike outs. He also has a Cy Young and a pair of All-Star seasons. Daniel Schlereth is currently riding his dad's ESPN gravy train and is back in the Tigers farm system after bouncing around the league a bit. Also, for the sake of name dropping, he gave up Jim Thome's 600th career home run.

WINNER: A lot has been said about this trade in the years following it. I believe that the general consensus is that it was a pretty fair trade for all teams considered. However, there are no ties here so the win goes to the Detroit Tigers.

November 18th 2010- The Arizona Diamondbacks send Scottie Allen to the New York Yankees for Juan Miranda.

NYY: As far as I can tell, Scottie Allen last played for the Trenton Thunder in 2013 and is coming to a coin-op laundry near you.

AZ: Juan Miranda (no relation to Ernesto) was part of the aforementioned 2011 National League West Championship team before being sent to the minors in the middle of the season. His last contract was signed with Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and can be seen on the next episode of 'Whale Wars'

*authors note* Fire the guy who writes my jokes.

WINNER: This was another tough call but I have to go with Arizona because Juan Miranda actually has MLB stats.

With that, we wrap up this series. I really thought that Juan Miranda was traded to Oakland because I had something to say here about that. (foreshadowing?) I am also in the middle of formulating an idea for a new segment called...

QUICK POINTS!

New York gets 1 quick point for being the victors of the Brandon McCarthy trade. Arizona gets 1 quick point for unloading the salary of Martin Prado on the Yankees for a catcher who is allegedly replacing the incumbent Miguel Montero.

There was a more recent three-way deal between Arizona, New York and Detroit. The Diamondbacks got Robbie Ray and the Yankees got Didi Gregorius. The point goes to New York for so quickly finding "the next Derek Jeter".

Scorecard: NYY-5 Wins/ARI-5 Wins/DET-1

Crap, it was a tie after all. Well here's to the Rob Manfred era!
