I realize the Yankees brass will never "throw in the towel" on a season, and perhaps that's not always a bad thing, but if I'm Brian Cashman, I'm at least on the phone with the Angels right now shopping Kuroda. With Richards now on the shelf for the rest of the season and the Angels in the hunt, a two month rental like Kuroda is exactly what they would be seeking. This assumes Kuroda cleared waivers, which I haven't been able to confirm. We all know Arte Moreno has been known to go into desperation mode, maybe the Yankees could capitalize on this??
Let's face it, with the Tigers' current pitching staff, It's highly unlikely they are not going to blow a 4 game lead. Depending on how next week's series goes in Detroit, the Yankees could pretty much be eliminated by Thursday. Why not try and get a little back in return for a player that will most likely not be on the roster next season? Not only that, but Kuroda has been known to fade into oblivion this time of year, anyway, rendering him expendable even if the Yankees make a late season run for the last wild card spot.
Thoughts??
