Next year.....

The offense isn't there, and the pitching can't hold up for a legitimate run this year. We get in on a whimper, and only if the other wild card contenders teams let us by falling apart. We NEED a great offseason. I think Cash is the man to get it done, but these days I'm not so sure anymore. Here are the moves I think we need to be aggressive towards making (I have very little knowledge, and am looking for feedback)

  • Starting Pitching: We need to target two big-time arms. CC has to be seen as a surprise if he gets back anywhere near form, and Kuroda has to be shown the door.
  • SS: We need more than just stop gap here, after letting Cano go, we need to shape the roster with guys that make people fear the lineup again.
  • Another bat: left field or first base or DH, we are going to need a backup big time bat that can perform offensively consistently.
  • 3B: A-Rod is an embarrassing option, the fact that the yanks still need him so badly at 39 is a sign that we are not moving into a good place as an organization.
  • Left field: Beltran is going to miss time, Ichiro will be gone, the youngsters are not making anyone nervous.
  • Bullpen: resign talent (should have been done already)
  1. Lester (the obvious choice)---lefty ace to give a solid one two punch with Tanaka
  2. Cruz ---I think a must get, he makes Beltran our true DH, and gives us offensive stability (Tex ???)
  3. Masterson / Santana ---the middle rotation help we need with Nova injury and CC question mark
  4. Robertson ---should be one of the faces for the future, resign him!!!!!!!
  5. Hardy ---we aren't getting Hanley, Drew is not a real option, unless we can work a trade, go with Hardy
  6. Headley ---I think he can be solid, if A-Rod comes back strong---he's a strong DH
  7. Butler / Morales / Dunn ---if A-Rod doesn't come back strong, we need offensive options, Butler is the long shot. This is a luxury if Cruz is signed, but with Tex always hurt now a good 1B backup is a good idea.
