The Bronx bombers are not even "uni-bombers" 1 week into the season. Hard to believe that Mark Reynolds has more HR's than the entire NY Yankees team (and he started the year off playing for the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League team).. After today's embarrassing loss to the Toronto Blue Jays I attempted to find out if the Yanks have ever gone 5 games out of the gate without a single homer..I was not able to find this..but then I started to think about where on this team the homer power comes from ? Fact is without Granderson (he hit one today as well), A-Rod, T-Rex, Cano..The power picture is worst its looked in years.. With the exception of Soriano its highly doubtful any other player on the team has 30+ homer power.. The picture projects like so -
Soriano (30? Maybe - he doesn't play everyday), T-Rex (20? Maybe he's already on the DL)
Beltran (20?..25?) McCann (20? maybe), Ellsbury (18?...20)
Gardner (15..max) K-Johnson (15..18?..not likely to hit more than that)
Jeter, Suzuki, Roberts, Cervelli, all the others, Lucky if they all combine for 20 more..
This is pitiful. We will be lucky to hit 120 Homers this year!!
Made me think - The Yanks should try to get Free Agent Kendry Morales.. he has higher B.A. and more likely to hit 25 homers than T-Rex.. If Texiera doesn't hit 20 this year and Soriano doesn't hit 30+..we might not break the 100 hr mark.. last time we did that was 1971 and 1969.. hitting 97 and 94 respectively in those years..
Just think 2 years ago 2012 the Yankees led the league with 245 home runs.. This year we are talking major power outage...
