Early Season Thoughts

Pitching injuries:

Not much can be done with a line drive to a pitcher's body. It is all about reaction time. No way can it be practiced. Now, shoulder and elbow injuries are another issue. One used to very rarely hear about such injuries. Why was that? For one pitchers were groomed to throw more innings at an early age. Therefore, building up arm strength the more natural way. Today, it is weight and machine training. Winter ball and year round training are not helping to preserve a pitcher's arm, that is for sure. No time off to rest the arm is a major contributor to arm problems. Just an opinion but a valid one.

Yankees current roster:

Starting Pitching: Rotation weakness is CC Sabathia at this point. But, CC has never been that strong, at the beginning of a season. Ivan Nova should improve as well. Rest are showing why they are in pinstripes.

Position Players: Brendan Ryan may not have a job, if the kids keep this up. Second base will and should be covered for a long time. Dean Anna and Yangervis Solarte are proving that they can play with the big boys. Infield defense is not outstanding but the shift has made it work. Glad to see the Yankees are finding a way to get Francisco Cervelli in the line up. Overall I have been surprised and impressed the way this groups has been playing. I love the fact that this team has the ability to steal bases up and down the line up. I like it. Who in the hell needs Stephen Drew anyways?

Bull Pen: Dellin Betances has proven he belongs. Watch out David Robertson he may end up as the closer. David Phelps is now coming around. Cesar Cabral may push Vidal Nuno back to triple A. All in all this has the potential to be a very good pen.

Summary: This team will be in the hunt for a championship. Sure there could be a few chages or adjustments made to improve this club. But those will be made because of an injury or a major improvement.

American League East: Dogfight is the word. They are and will prove to all, that this is the toughest division in baseball. Will be less than 7 games separating the bottom team from the top team at seasons end.
