So long all you "Top Priorities" of the off-season. We will miss every opportunity to wonder what would have been. Given, we don't know who is actually are available for trade and who would the Yanks be willing to give up to obtain someone, lets take a brief look of the free agents remaining on the market.
Name | ERA | WHIP | 2014 Starts |
Brett Anderson | 2.99 | 1.315 | 8 |
Chris Capuano | 3.91 | 1.387 | 24 |
Gavin Floyd | 2.65 | 1.250 | 9 |
Aaron Harang | 3.57 | 1.400 | 33 |
Jake Peavy | 3.73 | 1.278 | 32 |
Ryan Vogelsong | 4.00 | 1.278 | 32 |
Edinson Volquez | 3.04 | 1.230 | 31 |
Chris Young | 3.65 | 1.230 | 29 |
Gavin Floyd and Brett Anderson are interesting options, but due to the health risk of both pitchers, a minor league contract with an invite to spring training would be the way to go with them. Considering we are months away from spring training, there may be some wait time before they are willing to sign for the minor league contract.
Jake Peavy and Edinson Volquez would be significant contracts. Chris Young had a good year, but has previous injuries, Aaron Harang is a solid journeyman pitcher. Capuano pitched well last year, but he is another year over that hill. Vogelsong had the highest ERA of the bunch and the world series team who knows him best has yet to sign him.
Which of these pitchers would you sign to a major league contract, minor league contract or avoid altogether?
