Reasons for Optimism

7 games out. 4 teams ahead. Still there is reason for optimism. Yankees can still get into this race. The Royals, Indians and Orioles control the waiver wire. It would make sense to move several (all?) Yankees, even if the return isn’t as good as it would have been two weeks ago.

Although it would be humorous to see Royals fans root for Cano, he’d be a perfect addition to a streaking team. Dayton Moore is willing to take risks and his prospect cupboard isn’t bare. Cano would be a difference maker in Baltimore as well. Kuroda can go toe to toe with a Verlander, Darvish, Lester or Price. A quality arm like Logan is always useful. Overbay would make a good and cheap bench bat.

Although the Yankees are unlikely to be playing in October, some Yankees could definitely help. While it is not the consolation we are used to, it would still be nice to see Cano hit a few home runs in Arlington or Kuroda put up zeros in Fenway.

Plus, seeing new teams makes the playoffs more exciting. The Royals have not made the playoffs since 1985. The Orioles have not won a World Series since 1983. Of course, God hates Cleveland, who have not won a World Series since 1948. Wouldn’t it be satisfying if one of these three teams, took down the Rangers, Tigers or Red Sox in October? The Tigers, Rangers, Red Sox, Rays and Yankees have made the last 7 World Series. Time to help some new blood win the Wild card game and make some noise in the postseason.
