Mark Teixeira to the DL, Adam Warren and (maybe) Zoilo Almonte up

USA TODAY Sports

As a surprise to no one, Mark Teixeira has been placed on the disabled list, again. He was diagnosed with inflammation in his wrist and received a cortisone shot, but as expected to sit out for at least a week. Brian Cashman said he was leaning towards putting him on the disabled list, but nothing was made official until today. Tex struggled in the little time he was with the team and Kevin Long came out, to the surprise of Cashman, and said he was never right to begin with. Now surgery looks even more likely to happen and he'll be shut down for the year.

To replace him on the roster, Adam Warren has been called up. He was sent down earlier this week in order to get a fresh arm up, but he can forgo the 10-day waiting period because he is an injury replacement. There is also talk that Zoilo Almonte could be called up to make his major league debut. The switch hitting outfielder could get regular playing time if he proves to be better than Vernon Wells, which shouldn't be hard. He is ranked by MLB.com as the Yankees' 10th best prospect and has hit .297/.369/.421 at Scranton. Chris Bootcheck would likely be either sent down or designated for assignment to make room for Almonte on the 25-man roster.

A move like this would also cause a problem for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, considering the amount of injuries they have piled up as well.
