Robinson Cano is 4-9 with a double off Mets starter Jon Niese. Jayson Nix and Vernon Wells have each picked up two hits off Niese in their careers. Chris Stewart returns to the lineup after sitting out with continued discomfort in his groin. Hopefully that is behind him now, because Austin Romine has been dreadful at the plate. Travis Hafner, as you'd expect, will be sitting in favor of letting Hughes try his hand at batting. Yay...
On the other side:
David Wright and Rick Ankiel have found success off Phil Hughes in the past, with Wright being 3-9 off Hughes in his career, and Ankiel being 2-2 with a home run. Citi Field should help Hughes' fly ball ways some, but they did move the fences in recently. John Buck, who has been one of the best hitters in Queens for stretches this season, is 2-7 with a homer against Hughes in his career.
The Empire State Building will be lit up in either Yankees or Mets colors for 30 minutes following each game of the Subway Series.
Chad Jennings at LoHud discusses some of the Yankees' roster options for when Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis rejoin the team: David Adams could be sent back to Triple-A, Lyle Overbay could be cut, or Brennan Boesch could be sent down, making Jayson Nix your fourth outfielder. With the way Adams is playing, it will be a shame for him to lose his spot, but there seems like next to no way he isn't sent to at least the bench when Youkilis is healthy again. Which option would you prefer the team to go with?
