The only Yankee starters with real success off Cobb are Jayson Nix, who is 2-6 off the Rays' starter, and Brett Gardner, who is 1-4 with two walks. Travis Hafner is hitless in five ABs vs. Cobb, but he has managed to draw three walks. Though he is only 2-12, Robinson Cano has managed to homer off Cobb twice in his career to this point.
Austin Romine is catching today because Chris Stewart continues to feel discomfort in his groin. If a DL stint is in Stewart's future, any retroactive time that could have been used is gone after he played in games the past two days. It's almost like you could see that coming...
In other news, Eduardo Nunez has had a setback in his rehab from a ribcage injury. Joe Girardi told the media that Nunez tried to "amp it up" during some BP yesterday and that was when he felt discomfort. He'll be shut down for a few days before resuming his rehabbing, but he isn't close to returning at this point.
David Phelps is playing catch today and expects to throw a bullpen as soon as tomorrow. Good news after taking a liner off the elbow Friday night. Joba Chamberlain took a liner off his calf in an Extended Spring Training game yesterday, but he stayed in the game. He'll need at least a few more days. Hiroki Kuroda is also on the mend from being hit in the calf against the Orioles. He threw a bullpen and says that he should be ready to go for his next start.
Kevin Youkilis hopes to go on a rehab assignment next week and plans to take Mark Teixeira with him. How cute.
