Word is coming out via the Twitter that the Yankees have put Joba Chamberlain on the 15 day DL for a right oblique strain. You know, because the Yankees don't have enough people on the DL yet to make a full team. All of my hate to you, injury bug.
Joba Chamberlain was put on 15-day DL with right oblique strain.— Jack Curry (@JackCurryYES) May 2, 2013
It is unclear how this happened yet, but it is believed to be retroactive to April 28th. No word yet on what the Yankees plan to do now regarding the roster. Brian Cashman is set to hold a press conference at 3:30PM EST to discuss the situation. More to follow as this story, sadly, develops
UPDATE: Joba's injury is indeed related to warming up in the bullpen on April 28th, according to Cashman. Mark Montegomery, Preston Claiborne, and Sam Remel are the candidates to replace Joba in the bullpen. Meanwhile, in more injury news, David Robertson is not going on the DL, but is day to day with a hamstring issue instead. Yay?
In more DL news, Alex Rodriguez is heading to Tampa on May 6th to begin rehab work along with Granderson. Mark Teixeira will join them at the end of this homestand. Also it was reported that Michael Pineda's velocity is back up to 93-94 in his rehab. So hey, some good news!
