Andy Pettitte starts for the Yankees tonight in the rubber game of their three-game set against the Seattle Mariners. Were it not for a timely double by Robinson Cano in the series' first game, the Yankees might be facing a sweep tonight after Phil Hughes' dumpster fire of an outing yesterday. Thankfully, that is not the case. Pettitte's season has been a bit up and down, but seemingly more up than down. Two rough starts have been bookended by the starts we've come to know as typical Andy, and that's comforting. He was very good his last time out in Kansas City, so hopefully he can build on that tonight.
The Mariners originally planned to start Aaron Harang tonight, but he was scratched with lower back stiffness. Instead, they will turn to our old friend, Hector Noesi. After facing Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma the past two nights, Noesi should be a welcome change. Please beat Noesi. With three straight series coming up against divisional opponents, including the second place Orioles, the Yankees need to keep taking two out of three to remain on top of the AL East.
