Curtis Granderson could return to the Yankees Tuesday

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

In Curtis Granderson's second rehab game with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, he hit a two-run home run to the opposite field. He went 1-for-5 overall and hit three ground balls and struck out in his other four at-bats. He played eight innings in left field and only had to make two plays: retrieving a double and catching a fly ball. He will be the designated hitter for tonight's game and will finally play nine innings.

Despite the excitement of a home run, he still feels he is not 100% at the plate yet, since he's only hit the ball well once. He already has 30 at-bats, but still needs more time to get his timing and mechanics to where they need to be. He never had a Spring Training, so he still needs to find his rhythm before he can return to the majors.

It has been said and heard through the grapevine that Granderson will be with the RailRiders through their weekend homestand, which ends on Monday. It is highly unlikely that he will travel on the road with the team, so he should be back in the Bronx by Tuesday when the Yankees welcome the Mariners.

Also through the grapevine is that he will only be playing left field and right field in Scranton, which solidifies the belief that Brett Gardner will remain in centerfield, even when Granderson returns. Apparently, after seeing Gardner play so well in centerfield, Joe Girardi went to Brian Cashman to tell him who should be playing where.
