Stats from the Farm: Yankees April minor league roundup

USA TODAY Sports

Checking in on the statistics of Yankee minor leaguers at the conclusion of April. Many numbers lie ahead. You've been warned.

We check in on Yankee minor leaguers every day through the Baby Bomber Recaps, but I thought it might be interesting to take those and look at how those players have done month to month throughout this season. When you follow prospects every day, most of which you wouldn't be able to pick out of a lineup, the numbers can tend to all blur together and be gone with the next day's results. Hopefully this can provide a slightly better snapshot of how everyone has done, at least for the month of April.

It's extremely number-heavy; so if that isn't your cup of tea, this will likely make your eyes hurt. I apologize in advance if that is the case. Even following these guys every day, things stood out to me as a surprise that I wouldn't have been able to pick up on just by checking the box score every night, such as the early season success of Dietrich Enns. Who? Exactly.

Should you have any suggestions for statistics you'd like to see or couldn't care less about seeing in the posts like this to follow, feel free to leave me your feedback. To my knowledge, we've never kept track of these numbers like this, so I'm just kind of winging it until I find what works. Prospects have really become my thing, and I could go on about them all day, so I depend on you guys to tell me when I've gone too far. Now that I've rambled on this much, on to the numbers.

Yankees Minor League Player of the Month: Rob Refsnyder - His hot start in Charleston earned him a promotion, and he hasn't stopped hitting yet. He's almost certainly not this good (who is?), but it's enjoyable to watch one of our prospects have so much success while it lasts. Most of the standouts so far have been pitchers, so it's nice to see a prospect, especially in the lower levels of the minors, hitting the ball so well.

Yankees Minor League Pitcher of the Month: Vidal Nuno - I had a difficult time deciding between three incredibly awesome performances by starting pitchers. All three of Gabriel Encinas, Chris Bootcheck, and Vidal Nuno have pitched better than anyone could have imagined they would for an entire month. Both Bootcheck and Nuno were kind of discarded parts, and are doing it at a higher level of the minors, against more difficult competition. Either option is completely justifiable, but Nuno just gets the edge for less hits and more strikeouts. Like Refsnyder, he probably won't be this good forever; but if you can't dream about minor leaguers, then where can you dream, really?
