In the world of baseball, the Houston Astros just pulled off a trade to make their already-horrid team worse by dealing former Boston Red Sox shortstop Jed Lowrie and righty Fernando Rodriguez to the Oakland Athletics for first baseman Chris Carter, righty minor leaguer Brad Peacock, and catcher Max Stassi. It's hard to argue with the move though since the Astros weren't going anywhere anyway and they might as well go for that top pick in the draft for the third year in a row. Also Lowrie has never played more than 97 games in a season, so there's that.
Also, '06 NL Cy Young winner Brandon Webb retired, so you can mourn him, I guess. It's pretty ridiculous how quickly injuries ravaged his career. After finishing in the top two for NL Cy three years in a row from 2006-08, he pitched Opening Day in '09. He never made another appearance. It was an even more dramatic fall from glory than former Ne York Yankees ace Chien-Ming Wang, who at least made it back to the majors from injuries (albeit to pitch poorly).
How about a common debate among Yankee fans to discuss? It's pretty obvious, but I'm not sure if it's ever been put plainly in a poll on this website: Who was the better player, Joe DiMaggio or Mickey Mantle? I want to see what you have to say; I won't weigh in my opinion.
