Curtis Granderson Hit by Pitch in First Inning, Fractures Arm; Gone for 10 Weeks

New York Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson left today's Spring Training game against the Toronto Blue Jays early after getting beaned on the right wrist on a pitch by J.A. Happ. The most important part of the Spring is arguably staying healthy, but this was pretty unavoidable. See below.

We'll keep you updated if the Yankees or a beat writer Tweet anything about the injury. Hopefully there are no broken bones and this is nothing major. Granderson's strikeouts may be a pain in the ass, but he is an important member of this team and outfield. If it's broken and he has to miss the start of the season, then the Yankees could begin Opening Day with an outfield of Brett Gardner in center field, Ichiro Suzuki in right field, and God-knows-who in left field. Matt Diaz? Juan Rivera? Ronnier Mustelier? Melky Mesa? Player X? Who knows? Losing Granderson makes the lineup and bench weaker. Cross your fingers that Granderson will also be able to cross his fingers.

UPDATE: Got some news about Grandy from Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal about Grandy:

That's good then; if the team's medical staff think it's only a bruise, it's probably only a bruise. The Yanks will probably take it easy with him for a little bit, but y'all should definitely breathe a sigh of relief that there were no more serious problems.

UPDATE 2: Well that's not good. Grandy's right forearm is fractured and he's gone for 10 weeks:

Welp. Bring on Ronnie, I say! Get well soon Grandy. Crap. Bench coach Tony Pena's reaction upon hearing the news from Joe Girardi pretty much sums up how we're all feeling:
