I will start off by saying that losing Cano stings, but it was a situation where he wanted the money and years and the Mariners were willing to go there. The Yankees made a wise move by not entertaining a 10 year deal. From reports the Yankees were willing to go 8 years 200 million. I have a few ideas to fill the holes the Yankees have left. First, I'd sign Omar Infante right away. He's a solid hitter (.318 last year) with a solid glove. Sure, he won't put up the offensive numbers of Cano but he's the 2nd best option at this point. Second, I'd package Gardner with maybe Nik Turley and another prospect (B level) and try to entice a trade with the Cubs for Jeff Samardzija. There's rumors they're looking to trade him and starting a package with Gardner and Turley could get a deal done. As far as 3rd base goes (depending on A-rod's suspension), I'd give the option in-house to Ronnier Mustelier. He's 29 and deserves a chance to prove he can hack it in the majors. Also, the 4th OF should be given to Zoilo Almonte. I loved what I saw from this kid last year. Bye bye Vernon Wells and Ichiro. Maybe trade Ichiro for some bullpen depth. Thoughts/tweaks to these suggested moves?
