The Dodgers are shopping Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford and Matt Kemp. They apparently want to unload one of these contracts. Crawford has lost a couple steps. No longer does he appear to be a threat to steal 40 bases. He is not playing a gold glove caliber left field anymore. His speed is leaving him. Either has become a platoon option. Still a good defender but cannot hit those lefties. Matt Kemp is coming off an injury filled season. He is actually recovering from ankle surgery. Last couple years, he has spent a lot of time off the field on the DL list. Two years ago he was a stud hitting 39 home runs, .324 batting average, 126 RBI's and stole 40 bases. Quite a talent. Should have won the MVP but came in second to Ryan Braun, during the 2011 season. At 29 he should bounce back from his injuries.
What are the Dodgers needs or wants. They currently need some infield help. A third basemen and a utility infielder. Could use a loogy in the pen and maybe some late inning help. They also need to find another solid starting pitcher for their rotation. Many believe that they need a lead off hitter. Who can steal 30 to 40 bases every year. Looking at their top 20 prospects they have pitching galore that are a few years away. Not much infield depth, outfield help or catching potential.
Do The Yankees have anything the Dodgers might want? I say yes. Any trade for Kemp would have to start with Ivan Nova. He would get their attention. He can be one of the most dominant starters in baseball. He is still under team control. Eduardo Nunez looked very good at third last few weeks of the 2013 season. He also has the ability to play short and second. He fills a couple needs for the Los Angeles. Everyone wonders what kinda of numbers he might put up if he was an every day player. Another player that might teak their interest would be Brett Gardner. Most believe that LA needs a proven lead-off hitter. Brett fills that bill perfectly and plays tremendous defense. If not Brett then a Mason Williams could be added. Austin Romine or J.R. Murphy could be added to sweeten the pot if needed. Finally, a Cesar Cabral could be the lefty they need in their pen. He looked good at the end of the year as a potential left handed specialist.
So my answer is yes the Yankees do have players that the Dodgers would want. The question is would or should the Yankees part with Ivan Nova and or Brett Gardner?
Which three would you send to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp:
Ivan Nova, Brett Gardner, Eduardo Nunez, Mason Williams, Austin Romine, J.R. Murphy or Cesar Cabral.
