MLB News: Nationals name manager, Rangers name new owner, Beltran wins Roberto Clemente Award

Miguel Cabrera and Paul Goldschmidt each received the Hank Aaron Award for most outstanding offensive performance in the American and National League. This is Cabrera's second in a row.

St. Louis Cardinals

Carlos Beltran has won the 2013 Roberto Clemente Award thanks to his work through the Carlos Beltran Foundation and the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico.

Chris Carpenter has announced that he will retire at the end of the season. He has recovered from several potential career-ending surgeries, but this one proved to be too much. Carpenter could take a job within the Cardinals organization after he officially announces his retirement.

Miami Marlins

The Marlins have named Craig Weissman to be their new vice president of player personnel. He formerly served as a special assignment scout with the Athletics.

Washington Nationals

The Nationals have named Matt Williams as their new manager, replacing the retiring Davey Johnson. Williams had previously been a coach with the Diamondbacks since 2010.

Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper, and Adam LaRoche all underwent various surgeries to ready for the 2014 season. Strasburg had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow. Harper had surgery on his knee to repair the bursa sac in his left knee, an injury first suffered when he crashed into the wall at Dodgers Stadium. LaRoche had surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. All three will need four to six weeks of recovery time, but are expected to be ready for spring training.

Texas Rangers

Ray Davis will replace Nolan Ryan as the controlling owner of the Texas Rangers. The decision isn't official yet, but it is expected to be approved when the owners meet on November 14. Davis had previously backed Ryan and helped purchase the team back in 2010.

Kansas City Royals

The Royals have hired Don Wakamatsu and Mike Jirschele to their coaching staff for the 2014 season. Wakamatsu had been a scout in the Yankees organization, scouting the likes of Masahiro Tanaka.
