Hiroki Kuroda no doubt has become the ace of the Yankee staff. CC Sabathia has been out pitch by this Japanese import. This year as CC regressed Kuroda improved. Then the last month of the season the wheels seem to come off for Hiroki. Was it because of age or too many stress filled innings earlier in the year?
To sign Kuroda it will take 14 to 17 million to get the job done. That may not be enough. It has been rumored for quite sometime that he may return to Japan for a final season. Any California team is always a possibility as his family lives there. He could easily give them a discount just to be with his family more.
No doubt the Yankees will offer him the 14 million just to retain him or at least a high draft pick. But, if he returns to Japan then neither applies. Would this be the best way to spend the 14 to 16 million?
For example Josh Johnson will be looking to increase his stock via a one year deal. Josh could be signed for 6 to 10 million dollar range. When health no one has better stuff.
Then a Phil Hughes might want to rebuild his value as well. Hughes might accept a contract for 4 to 6 million. The thing to remember about Phil is that he always could be used out of the pen. Hughes always seems to perform better every other year.
Scott Kazmir had a respectable year. He is rumored to be looking for a contract in the neighborhood of 6 to 10 million as well.
