Yankees rumors: Phil Hughes drawing interest from Rockies

Jim McIsaac

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Colorado Rockies could have interest in trading for Phil Hughes. American League executives told Rosenthal a few days ago that the Yankees were "aggressively shopping" both Hughes and Joba Chamberlain. The home run/fly ball prone Hughes in Coors Field seems like the stuff of nightmares, but Rosenthal reports that the Rockies have interest in turning Hughes back into a relief pitcher, where he found success early on in his Yankees career.

Earlier reports have said that the Rockies would not be willing to trade Troy Tulowitzki or Carlos Gonzalez in any deal, and would need to be overwhelmed to part with Michael Cuddyer. Colorado has been searching for starting pitching for a while now, having had a lot of interest in Ricky Nolasco before he was traded to the Dodgers. Cuddyer could be an interesting target for the Yankees, as he has played a little bit of a number of positions and could be the right-handed compliment to Lyle Overbay at first base. In 72 games for the Rockies this season, Cuddyer has a 151 wRC+ and 15 home runs. Do you think the Yankees should be interested? Is there anyone else on the Rockies you'd be interested in parting with Hughes for?
