Reliever Scheduled to Return Before Tomorrow's Game

David Robertson is scheduled to rejoin the New York Yankees today and be activated in time to be available for Friday’s game against the Washington Nationals, reports Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork:

Fresh off his second rehab appearance on Tuesday in Rochester, David Robertson is scheduled to rejoin the Yankees today in Atlanta, although he will not be activated until Friday's game against the Nationals in Washington.

Robertson has been out for more than three weeks with a strained left oblique and hasn’t appeared in a game for the Yankees since May 11. Prior to his injury, the right-hander maintained an ERA and WHIP of 2.51 and 1.186 over his 15 appearances spanning 14 1/3 innings.

He broke onto the scene last year, posting an ERA and WHIP of 1.08 and 1.125 with 13.5 SO/9 and 4.7 BB/9. These impressive numbers earned Robertson American League Cy Young consideration.

Before returning to the Yankees, Robertson made two minor league rehab appearances with the club’s Triple-A affiliate. He logged two perfect innings of work during his rehab stint with a pair of strikeouts.

Matthews reports that, upon returning, Robertson will move back into the role of setup man. Rafael Soriano, who’s registered 10 saves in 11 opportunities and sports an ERA and WHIP of 2.01 and 1.48, will remain New York’s closer.
