New York Yankees News: 4/13/12

Bob blowing a bubble.

The Yankees host the Angels this afternoon for the Yankee Stadium home opener with Hiroki Kuroda looking to bounce back from a rough debut as he faces off against Ervin Santana at 1:05 P.M.

- Mike Axisa at RAB discusses the Yankee bullpen, and how it is one of the greatest strengths of this team. Having to clean up some less than stellar performances by the starting pitchers, the bullpen has allowed only eleven hits and three runs since the blown save on Opening Day.

- If you don't follow the minors, you may have missed what Jose Campos has been doing at Low-A Charleston, but it's extremely impressive. After pitching six innings of one-hit ball in his last start, Campos added five no-hit innings in his most recent start. He's only 19 years old, and he's only facing Low-A competition, but it's exciting to see one of our prospects put up those kind of lines with Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances struggling at AAA.

- Is it too early to worry about a struggling Mark Teixeira? William Tasker at It's About The Money says yes. Historically, April is not kind to Tex, with the exception of last season, but we're only five games in. It's way to soon to make many judgments about what has happened so far.

- For as amazing as Brett Gardner is defensively, one thing he does is kind of infuriating, and that's his tendency to watch too many strikes go by at the plate. Matt Imbrogno at TYA thinks Gardner needs to swing the bat more (not just bunting style), and I can't really disagree with him.

- Chad Jennings at LoHud talks about the tough road ahead for the Yankees in April. After this series against the Los Angeles Pujols', the Yankees take on the Red Sox at Fenway, travel to Arlington to take on the AL Champion Rangers, and have a three game set at home against the Detroit Tigers all before May rolls around. That's definitely no easy task.
