New York Yankees News and Notes

Good morning, Pinstripe Alley readers. Here's your usual morning news for Wednesday, April 11th.

  • According to Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun, Robert Andino said his spat with Russell Martin after Monday's game was just miscommunication between two competitive players. Even if Andino was tipping pitches from second base, it's up to Martin to mix up his signs so that they aren't predictable.
  • Over at The Wall Street Journal, Daniel Barbarisi wrote about the Yankees and the infield shift. With the advances in statistical analysis, I'm surprised it took this long for managers to decide to shift certain players. Joe Girardi said that things have just become more sophisticated and that more information is available.
  • Bobbie Dittmeier of MLB.com wrote that 100 years ago, the New York Highlanders, just a year before formally changing their name to the Yankees, added pinstripes to their uniforms. Of course, the pinstripes have become synonymous with the history of the franchise.
  • More from MLB.com, as Bryan Hoch shared a few headlines, including Joe Girardi keeping tabs on Andy Pettitte and Eduardo Nunez feeling like he belongs.
  • Over at The Yankee Analysts, Eric Schultz contemplated Robinson Cano's next contract. He is due to hit free agency after the 2013 season.
  • Rafael Soriano apparently tore a nail while warming up during the seventh inning of last night's game, but there were varied reports about whether or not he was available. If it is bad enough, it could require a DL stint. This helps explain some of the...interesting managerial decisions Girardi made last night.
