Over the Monster is calling you out...for fantasy baseball!

Fantasy baseball season, and thus real baseball season, is coming on quickly (Thank God). This means a whole new season of the greatest rivalry in baseball.

Star-divide

Thus, we are throwing down the gauntlet. OTM invites Pinstripe Alley to be ground mercilessly into dust at our hands compete in a fantasy baseball league. Eight members of Over the Monster versus eight members of Pinstripe Alley in a no holds barred match for dominance. Blood will be spilt. Tears will be shed. Spice will flow.

If there is sufficient interest in Pinstripe Alley in retaining its honor, we can discuss scoring rules and league format. OTM has typically done a Head to Head points league format in our fantasy baseball leagues. However, I am sure we are willing to beat you at anything.

What say you, Yankees fans?

ESPN’s interface is so ridiculously better.

I just don’t feel like creating an account. Pure laziness on my part, not ESPN’s fault

I used to feel the same way

and I HAD an account, just never visited even when I had a team. Having two football teams there this year changed that, finally made a bookmark on the toolbar.

Is it?

As for the interface, I do most of my fantasy stuff on the fantasy monster app for the IPhone, so I couldn’t care less whether ESPN or Yahoo is used. It’s all the same.

You probably should start working on a new team name

Oh...

I’ve already got SEVERAL names in mind for a team name against Red Sox fans!

Can I borrow one?

Haha I’m not all that creative with the fantasy names but I need something good for a league against Red Sox fans.

There's an app for that?

Combining all your fantasy leagues? This would be awesome for me.

by DCyanks21 on Feb 3, 2012 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

Yes

The Fantasy Monster app for the Iphone combines Yahoo and ESPN for all Major Sports. I absolutely love it. It’s excellent. Though I’ve only used it so far for basketball, so maybe it won’t work as well if I have teams from two different sports involved. But I expect it’ll work fine.

It’s five bucks, but you can do essentially everything involving fantasy with it. Lineup changes, checking matchups, trades, adding/dropping players, and seeing the message board. I think it’s definitely worth it.

I prefer ESPN for both, but it’s what I’m most familiar with, which might have something to do with it.

I’m not picking your team or anything (obviously), so you guys can decide how to choose your players.

We all get separate teams?

I think he means the 8 people that will represent PSA.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Feb 4, 2012 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

Yes

PSA team which will choose separate teams.

While it’s billed as “OTM vs. PSA” because of the nature of the participants, everyone would be trying to win the league both for personal glory and, of course, to rep their home site.

by Sologub on Feb 4, 2012 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

Spitballing here, but might it be possible to introduce the concept of PSA vs. OTM? So, if there’s 16 teams and you come in first, that’s 16 points for OTM, I come in second so that’s 15 points for PSA, and so on.

by Lord Duggan on Feb 4, 2012 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

I like that idea.

Also, how do we think it’s fair to pick our 8 representatives? The 1st 8 who asked, the most active members, draw names out of a hat?

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Feb 4, 2012 3:08 PM EST up reply actions

I think it should be the first 8 who asked

Not just because I was one of those…

Whatever works. I just really want to be in on this. And I love Duggan’s idea.

If we’re going with the 1st 8, that’s probably something we should decide before this gets pushed off the sidebar.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Feb 6, 2012 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Well whatever we decide to do

If people are serious about doing something like this then we probably should rec the post so it stays up a little longer.

I would really like doing this.

Whenever there’s bragging right or added incentive I’m interested. Especially going against a Boston fanbase.

If we can’t fit everyone in maybe we can have co-owners. Baseball is a long year, but I suggest we set up a thread where we can discuss moves or just exchange emails so we don’t argue over who traded/dropped who. etc…

by DCyanks21 on Feb 4, 2012 3:55 PM EST up reply actions

I’d also like there to be a PSA only league, if there is enough interest for that. So maybe if someone doesn’t get into the PSA vs OTM one, they can join that.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Feb 4, 2012 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

Every year there's usually multiple PSA fantasy leagues

I don’t think it’ll be difficult to get enough people interested for two different leagues.

I don't like doing too many.

But there will be a lot of people willing to participate so it won’t matter.

by DCyanks21 on Feb 4, 2012 5:27 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I do like that

Gives incentive to have a strong team all around.

by Sologub on Feb 4, 2012 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

If that's the case,

maybe we should do a Roto league?

I want in!

I’d like to point out that I was PSA’s regular season champ last year, before half my team got injured in the first week of hte playoffs. Darn playoffs.

by mattxlegend on Feb 6, 2012 5:52 PM EST reply actions

If we go with the first 8 people:
Duggan
IGYAR
WWJD
Brandon
Rocks
Yankee Country
CAYF
YJ

Anyone have any objection to that or reason why those shouldn’t be the 8 PSA representatives? We should probably figure this out so we can work with the OTM people to work out technicalities and such.
