New York Yankees Sign David Aardsma to a Major League Deal

Scary.

The New York Yankees signed right handed reliever and former Seattle Mariners closer David Aardsma to a one year deal with a club option for 2013 today. The deal will pay Aardsma $500K, and is a guaranteed major league contract.

Much like Joba Chamberlain, Aardsma will miss a portion of the 2012 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery last July. The deal is likely more about having Aardsma for the stretch run in 2012, and if he excels, the entire 2013 season.

Aardsma hasn't pitched in MLB since 2010, when he posted a 3.44 ERA, 8.9 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 49 2/3 innings for the Mariners. Aardsma will strike out and walk a lot of hitters, so prepare yourselves!

In 2010 Aardsma also posted a 4.05 FIP, .189 batting average against and 1.17 WHIP, but was helped by a .231 BABIP.

The Yankees can say now they have the man who starts the Baseball Encyclopedia!
