Ripped and powerful?
Ready to hit bombs?
Well I’m ready to do a lot of things. Doesn’t mean I actually will.

Off topic, but um... this is amusing...
Alex Rodriguez is bringing his own food to restaurants in order to watch his diet as he prepares for spring training in Florida. The Yankee slugger was spotted at the Mondrian Hotel pool in South Beach on Saturday afternoon having lunch with girlfriend Torrie Wilson. But A-Rod didn’t order from the menu — sources say he’s following a special high-protein diet and travels with a cooler of his own grub. Rodriguez was seen asking a waitress to heat up his special meal in the kitchen, while Wilson nibbled on the poolside cafe’s chips and guacamole. A-Rod’s rep declined to comment.

If it was any other baseball player, no one would give a single fuck.

I don't know about that
That’s f*ckin’ weird.
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right
He's trying to stick to a diet and still wants to go out, who fucking cares?

Random prediction based on no evidence or stats whatsoever: Russell Martin will have a big year, get a good extension, then suck

Unlikely, because C is one of the few spots where they can easily get cheaper
The team plans seem to include one of Romine or Sanchez being ready for 2014.

They already discussed an extension with him

And it went nowhere
They wanted him, but it sounds like whatever they offered wasn’t sufficient.
In other words, they don’t want him at any price. I would be really surprised if he is the C in 2014.

I don't see how this is confusing
“Hey Russ, how about a 3/30 extension?” Click
1. The Yankees would love to have Martin for more than one year, until one of their prospects is ready. Martin probably has 3 good years left behind the plate.
2. But their demand for him does not match what Martin perceives his value to be (more than $10 million, more than 3 years), because their demand is depressed by their interest in staying under the 2014 cap, and they don’t know yet if they need to back the truck up for Hamels, etc.

You said “they wanted him” and then “they don’t want him at all”
That’s not contradicting yourself?

I think he meant that they don’t want to pay over a certain amount for him and he wants more?

Ah ha
“They don’t want him at any price” doesn’t mean what you think it means…
I want a Coke, but I don’t want it at any price…I won’t pay $2 for it. All things being equal, I want a Coke. But my demand is not inelastic.

I see, I still find it surprising they even wanted it in the first place. They really like him.

They’ve wanted him for many years. He checks all their boxes for what they want from a catcher until one of the prospects is ready (and I suspect they have proprietary stats that we don’t have access to). And the pitchers do really seem to like him.
If you look on Fangraphs & Yankee Analysts, both of them have positive reviews of Martin’s performance on the front page.

Watching TV and
There was a neat interview on Yankees Baseball Today on YES by Jack Curry of Russ and he was talking about how Pineda’s control was already getting better thanks to a change in his changeup grip.
Good to hear.
