Curtis Granderson has basically turned into the black Adam Dunn. Lots of power, no average, no running, and below average defense. A .232 average and depending on how you view defensive metrics, one of the WORST defensive players in the league. Granderson also posted his 2nd lowest stolen base total with only 10 this year. A year after his best season ever, Granderson has regressed tremendously. After this season, the Yankees hold a team option for $15 million for next year (increased from $13 million because Granderson made the All-Star team). With the Yankees needing to sign Cano and possibly Swisher, I don't see why the Yankees would pick up this option. I am not saying they don't try to sign Granderson, but the most I would offer him is $10-12 million a year for 4 years at which would be about market value. If the Yankees don't retain Granderson's services, Gardner could switch to the full time center fielder and there would be money to resign Swisher to play right. Ichiro could be signed to a 1 year deal as a stop gap. There are also plenty of Outfielders in Free Agency this year. Michael Bourn, Victorino, BJ Upton, and Melky Cabrera are the closest to stars. I won't count Hamilton because for the money he wants, it isn't worth it. There are also veteran guys with stuff still left in the tank such as Angel Pagan or Tori Hunter.
I personally don't think the Yankees should pick up the option and this will probably result in Granderson leaving, but I am confident that Cashman can ably fill the void
