Alfonso Soriano back in pinstripes?

The Chicago Cubs have been in contact with several American league teams. They want to trade Alfonso Soriano. Supposedly willing to eat 80% of his contract. Would cost that team between 3 and 4 million a year for next three years.

Would he be a good fit for the New York Yankees? Can he still play the infield? Would he be nothing more than a fourth or fifth outfielder and DH?

If traded with Matt Garza would it lower the asking price to obtain Garza?

What are your thoughts?

Yeahhhh, we really don’t need more old people with multi year contracts on this team. Quota has been filled.

Alfonso Soriano back in pinstripes?

Alfonso Soriano back in pinstripes? I would take him in a NY minute if that meant unloading AJ on the Cubs! Hope it works out!

by JBBY on Jan 7, 2012 8:42 PM EST reply actions

That would actually be a terrible deal for the Yankees considering Soriano is sigend for longer term, more expensive, and has absolutely no place to play.

by Briceratops on Jan 7, 2012 9:26 PM EST up reply actions

In what UNIVERSE is Alfonso freaking Soriano more valuable than AJ Burnett?

Think about it, I’ll wait. As bad as AJ has been, he still gives usa dependable amount of innings. this is just preposterous. What does Soriano bring to this team? What does he bring to any team?

by jetanumba2 on Jan 8, 2012 9:49 AM EST up reply actions

Freaking addition by subtracfion

If we get rid of AJ, yeah we lose his innings – but what kind of innings? Are you insane?

Clearly you don't understand the value of an innings eater

AJ is healthy and still provides a solid amount of innings. He has pitched 583 innings since he’s been with the Yankees. Who are you going to get to replace that?

2011 for reference:

CC 237.1
AJ 190.1
Nova 165.1
Colon 164.1
Freddy 146.2

So who exactly are you going to replace him with? Alfonso Soriano doesn’t replace that.

where do you find this great stuff?

The Yankees don’t need Soriano, they need a good young outfielder that plays everyday.

but his stock has been falling for some time now and at the moment I don’t see where he fits. DH? That’s what I got Jones, A-Rod, Jeter, and Nunez for.
