New York Yankees News: Best Shape of his Life!
Get ready for "player X is in the best shape of his life" season. The latest addition is Phil Hughes, but you'll hear a lot more names until the season starts.
- The Yankees signed RHP reliever Manny Delcarmen to a minor league deal and could sign utility-man extraordinaire Bill Hall.
- MLB released the start times for 2012. The Yanks open in Tampa on April 6 at 3:10 p.m.
- Mike Silva says Hiroki Kuroda, not Michael Pineda, is primed for a breakout season.
- How many MVPs would Babe Ruth have won if the rules were different back then (players could only win the award once)? Joe Posnanski says 10 is a realistic possibility.
- Bill Petti at Beyond The Boxscore studied the effect of ballparks' run environments on their team's chances of winning. It turns out that extreme hitter-friendly parks hurt their teams more because it taxes the pitching staffs.
- Tommy John will speak at a Hall of Fame event on February 12 in Union County, NJ.

Would you believe it, this Phil Hughes is just as frustrating as the other
Oodles of talent (and hype), but he’s had more than Master Chef’s share of trouble. Must be something in the name, haha.
The idiot formerly known as pkyankeefan! Now in Technicolour!
I don't know
I know a housepainter named Phil Hughes, and he always finishes the job on time and under budget.

unfair comparison...
that Phil Highes is an Aussie and rubbish (obviously), whereas Yankee Phil is neither rubbish nor Australian.

Dunk and a foul on OKC
Blake jumps so high that his dunks are sometimes ‘thrown’ into the hoop. They may need to readjust the scoring methodology because of him, but currently, they still count as dunks.

I actually think Kuroda is far more likely for a dropoff
The record will improve because of the offense, but I think the peripherals and overall numbers will get worse because he’s moving into a much stronger division. Also, the fact that he’s old isn’t going to help him as his stuff is most likely declining.
Pineda is young, pitched in the AL last year, has superior stuff and is more likely to improve, so I think he’s a safer bet for 2012. I’m really happy that both will be in the rotation though.
Hope Hughes dominates this spring. It’s probably his last chance to show this team he can start, and I’m rooting for him.
